The most recent No Man’s Sky update – completely free of charge – introduces Worlds Part 1, a massive expansion entirely for free. No Man’s Sky’s launch is pretty notorious within the gaming world. Now though, it’s been eight years, and the dust has settled. People move on and forgive. We saw it with Cyberpunk 2077, which had its phoenix moment with the Phantom Liberty expansion. Now, it’s Hello Games’ turn to redeem itself.
No Worlds Part 1 is going to be utilising technology from Light No Fire, the yet-to-be-released game from the same studio, and this is going to play a huge part in the experience overhaul.
The studio has developed water technology that creates waves and reflections that make NMS “feel completely new,” alongside redesigning much of the planetary physics too.
What’s also really important to note is that Sean Murray has said that there’s going to be “much more to come,” hence the name: Worlds Part 1.
“New clouds, terrain, and water are absolutely gorgeous,” said one spectator.
This makes it the official 5.0 update for the game, which sees the journey continue even after eight years since its initial launch now. Despite the initial negative press it saw on release, the fact that the game has consistently been seeing a playerbase between 5-10K people is nothing short of impressive, and you’ve got to admit that it’s now a flying success.
Patch notes include the following:
- Big Hunt Expedition: The Liquidators (bug hunts).
- Renaming discovered plants, planets, flora, fauna
- New worlds
- New clouds
- Customise solar ships
- Detailed shadows
- High definition water
- Otherworldly life
- Full wind simulations
- Dynamic water
- Liquidator combat mech
- Sub-zero worlds
- Desert diversity
- Sky colours
- Insect armour set
- Engine enhancements
- New interaction labels
- Beatle diversity
- Dramatic storms
- Twitch drops
- and many, many more.
I’d recommend having a skim for yourself. The update is incredibly large, and there’s no point in me trying to parrot all the information to you.
