Google has stated that the Founder’s and Premiere Editions of Stadia will be shipped on a first-come first-served schedule, so people who have pre-ordered the streaming service may not receive their bundle at launch (via The Verge).

Google Stadia Founder’s Edition was selling like hot cakes in Europe, and Google had to formally announce that the bundle had sold out worldwide and that the new Premiere Edition would be introduced to replace it. The Premiere Edition has a white controller and Destiny 2, as well as the Chromecast Ultra and the three-month Stadia Pro subscription. Fancy.

It referred to its blog post published on October 15, and it does say that ‘if you were one of the first gamers who pre-ordered’ then purchasers may be fortunate enough to play at 9.00am PST/5.00pm BST on day one. So, if you were one of the stragglers who only recently pre-ordered the Founder’s Edition before they sold out, you might not get Stadia on November 19.

To me, this seems to cancel out the concept of a pre-order. I thought a pre-order would ensure the product would be in your hands at launch, if not before, but the Stadia pre-orders instead offer bonuses like exclusive controller colours and a Founder’s badge on a unique username. However, Google has said that it is targeting a delivery date within the first two weeks after launch for the Founder’s and Premiere Editions. So, Stadia players won’t be kicking their heels for long.

Stadia Base is coming a little later and will be free, streaming games at 1080p and 60fps when it launches in 2020. Stadia Pro, set at a monthly subscription price of $9.99, will offer a streaming service that plays games at 4K resolutions with 60fps, HDR and 5.1 Surround Sound. In addition, Stadia’s wireless controller won’t be entirely wireless and is ‘limited to Chromecast Ultra’ for the time being.
