The NPD Group has revealed that God of War is now the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive game since tracking began way back in 1995.

Yes, 1995. That's before Grant Mitchell left EastEnders and even before Let Loose split up. Good times.

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us was the previous record holder, although it's been five years since that game came out. The milestone is certainly impressive, although I'm not surprised considering God of War's accomplishments thus far: It sold over five million in its first month alone, and its digital revenue topped $130 million.

Proving it's still got staying power, God of War came in second place in overall software sales for June 2018, the NPD added.

'I currently project God of War finishing 2018 as the 8th best-selling game in the U.S. market, but a few more months of performance like this and I may have to raise those expectations,' the NPD's Mat Piscatella told IGN.

In addition, the tracking organisation confirmed that the PS4 was the top-selling video game console for that month in terms of current machines. I say 'current,' because the NES Classic actually came out on top overall.

Unsurprisingly, PS4 is still the best-selling console of 2018 so far, although that's not to say Xbox One hasn't been doing well; its sales in June were double those of the same period last year, the NPD notes.

God of War was released on PS4 back in April, and in case you missed it, might just be worth a punt.
