God of War director Cory Barlog has revealed that the team were forced to cut a fair amount of bosses from the PlayStation 4-exclusive eviscerate-'em-up.

Speaking with NoClip, Barlog said that just one boss took about 18 months of work from the team at Sony Santa Monica Studio, with God of War originally starting out as a far more 'ambitious' project.

'We cut a lot of bosses. A lot. We had so many more,' he said. 'It was a much more ambitious, crazier game. And as you go through development, you start realising, "No, it's too big, we can't do this".'

'One boss takes like 30 developers a year and a half. It's an absolutely massive scale when you really consider it, and you measure it against other games in which we finished the game in a year and a half.'

Barlog also dropped a few other interesting tidbits on the actioner, including the fact the trolls were not initially conceived as boss battles. He previously admitted that the studio had some major DLC plans in store, but were again cut due to them being 'too ambitious.'

God of War launched on PS4 back in March 2018, and sold over five million copies in its first month on sale. We thought it was ace; in fact, we liked it so much it won our Game of the Year Award. So yeah, you might want to check it out if you haven't already done so, eh?
