God of War director Cory Barlog has joined Crystal Dynamics, the Square Enix studio behind the Tomb Raider franchise, reports IndustryGamers.
Barlog will work on completing the Tomb Raider reboot, plus a “yet to be announced new title”.
During his time at Sony Santa Monica he served as writer and director for God of War 2, creative director on Chains of Olympus and head of story creation for Ghost of Sparta. He left Sony in 2007.
“Crystal has pulled together some of the best teams in the industry to deliver against upcoming projects and future IP,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio. “Cory’s heritage in building industry defining action adventure titles, together with our focus on delivering quality character driven blockbuster entertainment makes Cory a tremendously exciting addition to the team.”
Barlog’s work on the God of War series would certainly come in handy if the team at Crystal Dynamics were working on an action adventure game – something like a new game in the Soul Reaver series perhaps.
