With Guitar Hero proving a great success on consoles, it’s no surprise to see a title along those lines appearing on a handheld. Ubisoft’s Jam Sessions for Nintendo DS is somewhat of a different beast though, enabling players to create their own music.

Jam Sessions is an amazing title with limitless potential to entertain and engage a wide audience of people who love music, guitar and singing,” said John Parks, EMEA Marketing Director. “Basically, it’s a guitar in your pocket but that’s just the beginning. It’s a chance for people who have never thought of themselves as ‘musically inclined’ to jump right in and play through entire songs, compose their own music and sing along with friends.

Using the touch screen players will be able to strum a guitar as if playing the real thing. The game includes a number of modes including Performance, where players can sing and play along to some of the hottest artists; Free-Play, giving players the ability to play whatever they wish; and tutorial where the game will help players learn how to play guitar.

The game will also record what you play, enabling the player to listen back to their creations and share their original music with other people.

Jam Sessions is scheduled for release on Nintendo DS in the summer.
