Video games these days are often backed by huge multi-million dollar budgets, and while this can be great for the gamer, where does this leave the independent developer?
UK-based Introversion has proved there’s still room for small independent teams, having earned critical and commercial success with Uplink, Darwinia and DEFCON. A big boost for Introversion was a deal which saw their titles made available on Valve’s Steam digital delivery service, immediately putting their games into the reach of millions of gamers.
Last week it was announced that fellow independent developer, Cryptic Sea, have had their physics-based platformer Gish released on Steam. The game sees Gish, a ball of tar, on a mission to save his girlfriend from an unknown bad guy.
Gish features more than 34 story levels, over 20 collection levels, more than 80 user made levels and six unique versus game modes. What’s more, the game is available for a limited time for only $7.95 (usual price $9.95).
