Bethesda has announced that Tango Gameworks former PlayStation 5 exclusive Ghostwire: Tokyo is jumping to Xbox consoles in April – and will also be available via Xbox Game Pass.

On the same day, the game will also get a brand new Spider’s Thread update, which will be free to all players of the game across PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox.

The announcement made today promises multiple additions in the Xbox release that are part of the Spider’s Thread update – including more areas to explore, new story cutscenes and a brand new mode.

Ghostwire: Tokyo Xbox Game Pass release date

Ghostwire: Tokyo will arrive on Xbox Series X|S and on the Xbox Game Pass service – plus the PC Game Pass service on Windows 10/11 – from April 12, 2023.

The Ghostwire: Tokyo Spider’s Thread update will release for existing PlayStation 5 and PC platforms on the same day, while the content will be included in the Xbox release from day one.

Ghostwire: Tokyo Spider’s Thread update details

The main feature of the update will be a brand new mode entitled ‘The Spider’s Thread’ – here, you’ll be challenged to complete a gauntlet of 30 stages from a possible pool of over 130 hand-crafted levels.

It won’t be easy – but as you progress through levels you’ll also be able to complete challenges, which in turn will reward you with upgrades to make yourself stronger.

As you’ve probably gathered though, this is a sort of rogue-like mode, as death during a run means you’ll have to start from level 1 once more. However, you will get to keep a portion of your upgrades on the next run.

On top of the new game mode, the Spider’s Thread update adds a new Middle School area – but don’t worry if you’re not a fan of horror, as there’ll also be a new ‘Reduced Horror Effects’ sticker where certain effects will be replaced by stickers.

If that wasn’t enough, the new mode also includes some new combat skills – such as Counter-Attacks, Quick Dodging and Charge Rush. They’ll be tested pretty quick though, as there’s also some new foes you’ll need to have mastered these new skills to defeat.

Finally, the update also expands the game’s Photo Mode, and a few secret additions that Tango Gameworks is keeping under wraps for now.

We’ll get to find out when the Spider’s Thread update – along with the Xbox release – for Ghostwire: Tokyo arrives on April 12, 2023.
