Sierra Entertainment has announced the development of Ghostbusters The Video Game, based on the classic films that have grossed over $500 million worldwide.

The game is to feature the original film cast, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, back together for the first time in over 20 years. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis will pen the game’s script as they did with the two motion pictures.

Players will take on the role of a new recruit in the Ghostbusters team and will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of supernatural villains in a battle to save New York City from a paranormal plague.

Sierra Entertainment is extremely excited to not only deliver fans, old and new, this next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe, but to allow them inside the universe for the first time,” said Martin Tremblay, president, Worldwide Studios for Sierra Entertainment. “Our collaboration alongside Terminal Reality and Red Fly Studios also includes working closely with the team at Sony Pictures Consumer Products. Together we will create the ultimate Ghostbusters experience, full of the characters, ghosts and other paranormal creatures so many have come to adore over the years.

The Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions are in development at Terminal Reality (Bloodrayne 2 and Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run), with Red Fly Studios handling the Wii, PS2 and Nintendo DS versions.

Ghostbusters The Video Game is expected for release in autumn 2008.
