All-new ghost-type Pokemon, Honedge, has been announced for upcoming 3DS titles Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.
The announcement was made by Game Freak director Junichi Masuda at the Japan Expo in Paris.
Honedge comes into being when a departed spirit possesses a sword that once belonged to humans. A blue cloth attached to its hilt acts as an arm which can drain energy.
Honedge can learn the attack Swords Dance, a Normal-type move that uplifts the fighting spirit and sharply raises the user’s Attack stat. The effect can be increased by using this move multiple times in succession.
Masuda also revealed that multiple regions in France have been used by Game Freak to influence the design of the Kalos region. Paris provided ideas for Lumiose City, the metropolis featured in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.
