Ghost Games UK has been hit by a wave of redundancies and its unannounced Need For Speed title “put on hold”, according to a report published by Polygon.
The site claims that EA dismissed the studio’s contractors last week and told full-time employees that “they could either take compensation and leave” or support development on a “police-themed” Battlefield title allegedly in the works at Visceral.
It isn’t known how many people have been affected or whether the title’s suspension will disrupt the scheduling of this year’s Need For Speed.
Ghost Games UK is mainly comprised of former Criterion employees, and was formed after the studio splintered during the development of Need For Speed: Rivals.
The majority of Criterion’s staff went on to work for Ghost, leaving just 16 people at the studio. Two of them – co-founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry – left last month. Ghost Games’ main Gothenburg office is believed to be unaffected.
In response to Polygon’s report, EA confirmed to VideoGamer.com this morning that it had “entered a consultation period for some positions in our Ghost Games UK studio”. The firm chose not to disclose any further details.
