Gears of War, the action spectacular from Epic Games, has now gone triple platinum, with worldwide sales of more than three million units. More impressive is that the game reached this milestone in only ten weeks on sale.

It’s no surprise then that the recently released Map Pack has been downloaded an astounding 750,000 times. Total downloads for all Gears of War content available on Xbox Live Marketplace currently stand at 1.5 million.

Like blockbuster titles from Microsoft’s ‘Halo’ franchise and the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ and ‘Zelda’ franchises, ‘Gears of War’ is tracking to be one of the best-selling video games of all time and has established itself as the most successful new IP of the next generation,” said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of Global Marketing, Interactive Entertainment Business Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft Corp.

Microsoft has also revealed that the “Gears of War: Mad World” cinematic trailer has been viewed more than 2.4 million times online.

Gears of War is the fastest-selling title of 2006 and the fastest-selling original exclusive Xbox game of all time.
