Gears of War 4’s Season Pass will cost £39.99 in the UK, Microsoft has confirmed.

The high price makes it one of the most expensive Season Passes released so far, putting it in line with Battlefield Premium and Star Wars: Battlefront’s Season Pass, the latter of which attracted criticism following its announcement last year.

It’s also double the price of Gears of War 3’s Season Pass, which costs £19.99.

Gears of War 4’s Season Pass grants players “permanent access” to 24 DLC multiplayer maps “for private play on dedicated servers”, plus an exclusive playlist that offers access to new maps, modes and features ahead of their public release. A Vintage VIP Pack featuring a character skin and two weapon skins is thrown in as well, along with six Gear Packs that can be used to unlock skins, emblems, equipment and boosts.

Players who don’t purchase the Season Pass will still be able to access the new maps for free, but they’ll be rotated in and out of playlists each month, meaning you could potentially lose access to your favourite maps. 10 maps are due to be available at launch.

Gears of War 4 launches worldwide on October 11. Picking up the £79.99 Ultimate Edition, however, (which includes the game’s Season Pass) unlocks the game four days early on October 7.
