Homeworld HD has been retitled ‘Homeworld Remastered Collection’ to better reflect the work going into project, Gearbox has said.

“This is more than a simple re-release or up-res — given the input we’ve received from fans, mod makers and series veterans, the result is full-fledged remastering of nearly all aspects alongside the archival Classic versions,” wrote Gearbox interactive marketing manager Chris Faylor.

The new remastered versions have been modernised with the latest advances in graphics technology, including high-res textures and models, new graphical effects, and support for HD, UHD, and 4K resolutions. The game’s original audio and video artists have also recreated cinematic scenes.

Multiplayer from the two games has also been “combined into one centralised mode that will allow you to interact with other players like never before”.

Homeworld purists will be able to play classic versions of both games, too, with added compatibility for modern operating systems.

The new Homeworld Remastered website features a survey about possible Collector’s Edition options.
