Gearbox Software is reportedly set to release HD remakes of the original Homeworld and 2003 sequel Homeworld 2.

The studio is said to have announced its plans for the Homeworld series during this weekend’s PAX Australia, revealing that it hopes to release both HD remakes and the original versions of the two sci-fi strategy titles via PC digital distribution channels.

Release dates for the games have not yet been announced, and it isn’t yet known whether the two remakes are being developed in-house or via a development partner.

Gearbox acquired the rights to Homeworld during THQ’s assets sale, purchasing the IP for $1.35m.

The series was originally developed by Company of Heroes creator Relic Entertainment.
