Hopefully GameSpot’s loss is our gain, as the site announced today that its esteemed Editor-In-Chief Greg Kasavin is leaving to start a new career in game development.
The veteran journalist has accepted a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” with an established but, as yet, unnamed studio, although he does say he will be working on one of his favourite gaming franchises. After more than a decade with the site, next week will be Kasavin’s last with GameSpot before heading off to pastures new.
In a farewell blog post, Kasavin admitted deciding to make the move was no easy decision. He explained: “My friends, family, and close colleagues have known that making games has always been my goal but breaking into that business is hard, and I wasn’t going to do it until I was ready.
“At last, when faced with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get my foot in the door and contribute to one of my favorite gaming franchises, I still didn’t have an easy time making the choice. That’s because, in case it hasn’t been abundantly clear, I love this job.”
It’s a sad day for games journalism but we have to look on the bright side – who better to make video games than a man who has been tearing rubbish ones to shreds for over 10 years.
Good luck to him, we can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up.
