GAME has defended its decision to change the pounds to points ratio dished out by its Reward Card loyalty scheme, telling VideoGamer.com that customers will “love and benefit from” a host of new features.

“Our new GAME Reward Card combines the best features from both the gamestation and GAME loyalty schemes, there are loads of great features that we know gamers will love and really benefit from,” Anna-Marie Mason, marketing director for Game Retail Ltd. told VideoGamer.com.

Mason added: “We’ve changed the pounds to points ratio so that you now earn 2.5% of the value back in Reward points when trading-in; as well as earning 2% back on everything you buy (excluding gift vouchers). We’ve made it easier to spend your points by enabling points redemption from a minimum value of £1, rather than the previous scheme’s increments of £2.50.

“All gamers now have the opportunity to earn more points when they achieve one of our cool Accolades such as trading-in a game within 14 days of launch to earn 500 points, buying on-line for the first time or using GAMEhunter. You can also earn double Reward points when you pre-order and then buy new releases (software) – so that’s 4% of the total value – as well the guarantee that you get your hands on the game first!”

Last week, VideoGamer reported that under the new Reward Card terms, customers will have to spend £50 to earn £1 in loyalty. Prior to the terms change a £40 spend earned £1.

Game Retail Ltd is currently in the process of rebranding its Gamestation stores to operate solely under the GAME name. Gamestation.co.uk is set to close next week.
