GAME has confirmed the loss of 46 jobs at its Basingstoke headquarters, reports MCV.

The job cuts come as part of company wide restructuring designed to enable the retailer to “better respond to the current video games market”.

The cuts represent a loss of approximately 10 per cent of the Basingstoke workforce.

“The proposed restructure will result in around 46 fewer roles at our central support centre in Basingstoke,” a spokesperson confirmed. “Our proposed new structure will change the way that we operate and will enable us to be significantly more efficient in our relationships with suppliers and customers.

“We are giving our full help and support to the colleagues who are affected by these proposed changes.”

Will immediate effect, commercial strategy director Tricia Brennan is to become chief commercial officer, while UK MD Tom Devine becomes channel director.

Dave Hughes, involved with the re-launch of the GAME website, will leave the retailer in March.

The layoffs follow huge financial concerns for the retailer which last week announced new agreements with lenders enabling it to stock new game releases. The group has also put its international business up for sale.
