Update: On ResetEra, Jason Schreier has just reported that Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards tease is not a Diablo 4 expansion. Schreier doesn’t know “where Jez is getting” the idea that it is an expansion for Diablo 4, and Schreier also doesn’t “currently plan on reporting what it is,” although “it’s a good one”.

So for now the mystery continues. Thankfully, The Game Awards is only a couple of weeks away, so we don’t have too long to wait for the reveal. Theories range from The Elder Scrolls to God of War in Egypt, but for now, nothing is official.

Original story:

On X, Geoff Keighley posted a cryptic tease for The Game Awards. It’s a picture of a strange structure seemingly in the middle of a desert with notable carvings of armor, a bear, skulls, and a crocodile. There have been a lot of theories suggesting the tease is a new God of War set in Egypt, but according to Jez Corden of Windows Central, it is instead a Diablo 4 expansion, “but also more”.

Jez Corden originally posted “Time to reinstall Diablo 4 methinks” on November 6. Following Geoff Keighley’s tease on November 29, Corden quote-tweeted his original post with an angel emoji. Corden then replied “yes, but also more” to a user asking if Keighley’s post really is just an “expansion teaser”.

There’s no hint as to what else might be announced, but the leading theory is that it’s a Nintendo Switch 2 port. Diablo 4 is an excellent installment, so a new expansion is sure to excite fans. Landing on the Nintendo Switch 2 would also be great for players who still haven’t experienced the game.

Sadly, the tease ending up as a Diablo 4 expansion is sure to disappoint many. A lot of fans, including Kratos’ actor, want a new God of War set in Egypt. It’s possible it could still happen, but don’t expect it at The Game Awards, at least based on this teaser.

The Game Awards 2025 rumors

There are a lot of exciting rumors for The Game Awards besides the possible announcement of a Diablo 4 expansion and Switch 2 port. Control 2 might be revealed thanks to the emergence of a trademark filing, and the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake is expected, as it’s reportedly releasing early 2026.

Rumors of a trailer for the Silent Hill 1 Remake have emerged as well, and there are leaks claiming Silent Hill Townfall is releasing early 2026, too. Tomb Raider fans are also hoping for the reveal of the rumored open-world adventure in India, as The Legend of Lara Croft is premiering on Netflix the same day as The Game Awards.

One game we know officially returning at the event is Mass Effect spiritual successor, Exodus. It is premiering a new trailer, and hopefully, it will announce a release date while also bringing Matthew McConaughey back to the stage.

The biggest game people are anticipating an announcement for is Half-Life 3. While Half-Life 3 is rumored to be revealed before the year ends, it’s not expected at The Game Awards.

You will be able to watch The Game Awards live on December 11. Livestreams will be available on YouTube and Twitch, and the event is streaming on Amazon Prime for the first time, too. We cannot wait for all of the trailers and announcements, as well as to celebrate all of the fantastic games released this year.
