Pokémon Go may be visited by Galarian form Pokémon from Sword and Shield in a new event, as discovered by a dataminer (via Dexerto).

Pokémon Sun and Moon introduced Alolan form Pokémon, that originate from the island of Alola. These pocket monsters are regional variants of known Pokémon, that look very different to their usual appearance and may have a different type to boot. Alolan Pokémon such as surfboarding Raichu, igloo Sandshrew, and fire dancer Marowak have been included in Pokémon Go as hatches from eggs or raid bosses.

Now, it seems as if Galarian form Pokémon may be coming to augmented reality game to celebrate the release of the new game, Sword and Shield. Reddit user lewymd posted code dug out of the game that indicates ‘galar_pokedex_header’ and ‘Galarian Form’ could be added in an update. They also found a special event titled ‘A Colossal Discovery’, which may be a ticketed event to attend in the player’s local time zone.

Lickitungs are wagging as to what these snippets of code could mean. ‘Galarian Form’ is self-explanatory, and one would hope that Galarian Weezing, Linoone, and Zigzagoon will appear in the wild in November. Regarding ‘A Colossal Discovery’, it could reference the Dynamax feature coming to battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Professor Willow may have a set of Special Research tasks for players to investigate, because no one knows why Pokémon in the Galar region are able to Dynamax, or even Gigantamax

However, Regigigas is the Colossal Pokémon. This ‘Colossal’ event may mark the return of the Regis to raids and Research Breakthrough rewards, which plenty of players would welcome. Flower crown Eevee is sweet, but I wish it’d pop up with a powerful CP.

These are discoveries made from datamining, so it’s got to be taken with a pinch of salt. These bits of code may be the remnants of a plan Niantic has since abandoned, especially knowing that Gen 5 Pokémon have just been released. It’d be very exciting if Galarian Pokémon do appear, and we’ll keep you posted once we have an update.
