Frozen home video sales destroy FIFA 15 & Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

2014’s best-selling video games FIFA 15 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare were convincingly outsold by Disney’s home video release of its mega-hit Frozen, according to data released by the Entertainment Retailers Association.

Frozen came out on top with sales of 4.012 million copies, some 1.34 million units ahead of FIFA 15’s 2.663 million copies. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare charted in third, moving 1.837 million units.

FIFA and COD were two of five video games to make the entertainment Top 20, joined by GTA 5 at No.6, Destiny at No.14, and Watch Dogs at No.18.

Top 20 based on retail sales:

7. Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour – Universal Music (1,296,295 units sold)

8. The LEGO Movie – Warner Home Video (1,092,486 units sold)

9. The Hunger Games – Catching Fire – Elevation Sales (1,078,911 units sold)

10. Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie – Universal Pictures (1,056,960 units sold)

11. Now That’s What I Call Music 89 – Sony Music/Universal Music (999,201 units sold)

12. Guardians of the Galaxy – Walt Disney Studios (992,818 units sold)

13. Frozen Soundtrack – Universal Music (974,067 units sold)

14. Destiny – Activision Blizzard (937,235 units sold)

15. Gravity – Warner Home Video (915, 355 units sold)

16. The Wolf of Wall Street – Universal Pictures (888,621)

17. The Inbetweeners 2 – Channel 4 DVD (849,859)

18. Watch Dogs – Ubisoft (808,799)

The games market generated revenues of £2.45 billion, up 7.5 per cent over 2013. Of this, £1.5bn came from digital sales, which represent 61 per cent of the gaming market.
