Frontier Developments has today announced LostWinds, the independent studio’s first title for the forthcoming Wii Channel WiiWare (Wii Software in the UK).

LostWinds is described as a high quality, enchanting adventure that will embrace the innovative Wii controller. Developed using Frontier’s in-house 3D engine, LostWinds gives players the ability to wield the powers of Enril the wind spirit, able to conjure up anything from a gentle breeze to a tornado.

As Enril players will need to guide and protect Toku, a young boy who is the only one able to release a curse placed upon the world of Mistralis by the evil Balasar. Using the power of the wind, Toku will be able to jump higher and glide further and will have to solve puzzles and defeat enemies if he is to defeat Balasar.

“LostWinds is an innovative game, and an exciting project for many reasons. Not least the fact that it’s one of the large number of excellent concepts that have arisen through our long running internal forum discussions on game ideas,” commented Frontier founder David Braben. “WiiWare offers a perfect extra outlet for that creativity, and I hope that LostWinds is the first of many games that will follow this process.”

An exact release date and pricing information is still to be decided.
