Elden Ring developer FromSoftware may be looking at a return to their mech-based Armored Core series as per a consumer survey.

A user on the Resetera forums by the name of Red Liquorice claims to have received the survey. (Spotted by Video Games Chronicle) Included within, he says, is a description, screenshots and even a 30 second video. The game’s described as a third person “mecha action title” set “on the planet of Bashtar, a sci-fi world devastated by a planet-wide disaster with an overwhelming sense of scale that only mecha can provide”.

The description also promises both long range combat with guns, and short-range blade and shield options. Also claimed are a “wide variety of maps” with “challenging enemies and carefully crafted situations” for replayability. You’ll also get to customise your mech, the description claims. For example, you can choose to focus on close combat with high mobility or strong firepower to take on swarms.

Red Liquorice would later post the screenshots, with watermarks edited out, to the forum. While not the clearest, they seem to indicate the sort of style the new game may be going for. There’s been no confirmation from FromSoftware or series publisher Bandai Namco at the time of writing, however.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see for an official confirmation. The last Armored Core game was 2013’s Armored Core: Verdict Day on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though hopes were raised (and subsequently dashed) of another in 2019 following an employee changing his header image.
