Gun Media and Illfonic have released a free update for Friday the 13th: The Game, that coincides with the retail launch of the physical version of the game. The update brings the addition of rain to all of the playable maps and a new playable map called Jarvis House, which was featured in the film Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Alongside the new map there’s a couple of new characters, Jason (from Jason IV), and Mitch Floyd the camp counselor.

Players will be able to use Jason IV once they’ve reached level 44 in-game. Jason IV comes equipped with the pig splitter, which sounds absolutely lovely and not at all grisly. The new camp counselor Mitch is unlocked from level 24, and he seems to be channelling the vibes of peace and love. Mitch has a high composure level, but his running and luck abilities seem to be quite low. I wonder what he’s been smoking? The developer has also added rain as a tension-increasing weather effect, as well as adjusting the Thick Skinned perk, which reduces all damage dealt. In addition to the new updates, counselors can now push each other out of the way in order to stop other players deliberately blocking your path.

In celebration of the physical release for Friday the 13th: The Game, and the fact that it’s actually Friday the 13th today, there’ll be a double XP weekend running from today until October 15. This will provide a perfect excuse to boost players levels while also indulging in some horror-themed escapades.
