It is a busy week for Helldivers 2 players, with the Escalation of Freedom update being released today, which will be followed by the Freedom’s Flame Warbond on August 8th. The new update has brought new planets, missions, difficulty levels, enemies, and many nerfs, buffs, and quality-of-life changes. However, one recent change has left players baffled.
In the Escalation of Freedom 01.001.002 patch notes, a change was added related to fire that states “Adjusted flame effects to work more realistically.” With this change buried among dozens of others, it is easy to overlook it. But, it didn’t take the Helldivers 2 community to jump into new missions and discover that there is more to this update than first meets the eye.
U/Funky2207 took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to discuss the change to fire and how it has caused the Flamethrower to be nerfed saying,
“Remember when they showcased how quickly a flamethrower could take down a charger when they finally “fixed” it? Now the week in which they’re releasing the Freedom flame warbond, they take the ability to kill a charger away whilst making the flame animation bloody ugly.”
They then concluded their post by saying that Arrowhead Game Studios “deserve every bit of criticism that’s coming their way AS THEY DONT LEARN. This whole “we’ll give you this, but take away this” is not working and is pushing players away.”
The changes to fire damage should extend to players too, which means that planets such as Hellmire will be much less intimidating. This also does beg the question as to why players should now purchase the upcoming Freedom’s Flame Warbond as the biggest selling point, the first resistant armor, is now redundant and not as needed as it was.
