SEGA and The Creative Assembly have announced the development of Total War: ARENA, a free-to-Play spin-off from the Total War series.

The game was announced earlier tonight during lead designer James Russell’s session at GDC 2013 in San Francisco.

Total War: ARENA will give players the chance to pitch history’s greatest commanders and their armies against each other in massive team-based battles. The online multiplayer-only experience will mix elements of RTS and MOBA gameplay.

Closed beta tests are also planned so sign up at totalwar.com/arena to be kept up to speed.
