FortressCraft, an Xbox Live Indie game taking its cues from Mojang’s Minecraft, has become the most successful XBLIG to date, developer ProjectorGames has announced.

Figures released by the developer today show that the game has sold 400,823 copies, which equates to a total of 96,197,520 Microsoft Points. In terms of ‘real’ money, that’s a tidy $1.2 million or £824,092.

ProjectorGames also revealed that FortressCraft has an 84 per cent trial to purchase conversion rate. The full game costs 240 Microsoft Points (£2.06).

FortressCraft capitalises on the success of Minecraft, allowing players to carve a world out of blocks. With its retro aesthetic and ‘invite-your-friends-over-to-have-a-look’ feature, the similarities to Notch’s 3 million selling indie sensation are more than a little obvious.

Minecraft, of course, is due for release on Xbox 360 this winter. Like the original PC version, the port – which is being developed by Dundee-based studio 4J – will enjoy a beta, too.

This could have a huge impact on future sales of FortressCraft. ProjectorGames has “a massive update on its way” for FortressCraft, however, that will add customisable blocks and server rankings.

FortressCraft is available through the Xbox LIVE Indie games platform now.
