Epic Games announced the latest tournament coming to its battle royale Fortnite, and it’s not a contest to bludgeon each other until only one player remains. It’s a fishing derby! (via Twinfinite)

Chapter 2 introduced a new battle pass which features an achievement-style system to award experience points for activities and actions in the new world. Players are now able to zoom across the water with motorboats and swim to safety, but those who want to chill out and enjoy the sound of birdsong and the titter of automatic rifles in the distance can fish at designated fishing spots.

Fishing will haul out a number of items, not all of them of the aquatic persuasion. Catching a Flopper fish will replenish 50 health points, dragging up a Rusty Can will deal 20 damage points, and a Slurpfish gives 50 health points or 50 shield points to the angler. There’s also the Mythical Goldfish which wipes out an opposing player in one hit. Fortnite’s Fishing Frenzy tournament isn’t about fighting, though, it’s about who can catch the most fish. Ecological disasters notwithstanding.

All participants will receive the Play to Win spray, and all they need to do to get stuck in is catch fish with a Fishing Rod in Solos, Duos, or Squads matches and use two-factor authentication on their account. Each region will have one champion in each of the four categories: these are Top Angler, Small Fry Champion, Flopper Champion, and Slurpfish Champion. For their efforts, the champions will get a real-life and engraved Llama Trophy once the competition has closed. Also, any player that catches the Mythic Goldfish will be awarded a Bottom Dweller Pickaxe.

The tourney begins on November 22 and ends on November 24. Each server will have a live list of the top ten players for each category, found at this link (scroll down until you see 'Leaderboards').

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS, and Android.
