Epic Games is constantly looking for ways to improve Fortnite and add new content to it. Back when the game came out in 2017, it looked much different than today’s version of it. The game was quite basic, and at first, it only had a PvE mode. Shortly after, Epic added a battle royale mode, which turned Fortnite into a worldwide sensation.

The success of Fortnite Battle Royale is a big reason why Epic added many other modes later on, from Creative to Blitz Royale. Now, the game has over a dozen core modes, as well as thousands of creator-made maps. Due to this, the Fortnite creator will release a big change that will drastically improve the game.

Fortnite will soon solve a problem with the game size

As of August 2025, Fortnite weighs over 100 gigabytes on several systems. The code game is over 60 GB, while its PvE mode adds 10 more. High-resolution textures take up lots of hard disk space as well, and pre-downloading streamed assets requires nearly as much space as the game itself.

Fortunately, Epic is working on a thin client that will drastically reduce the size of Fortnite. This feature has been in development for approximately a year, and according to Hypex, the game’s most popular leaker, it will be released soon.

The reputable Fortnite leaker claims that the change will be implemented over the next 30 days. The next three Fortnite updates are scheduled for August 26, September 9, and September 16, and it’s likely that the thin client will come with one of them.

Essentially, a thin client will allow Fortnite players to choose the game modes they want to download. Those who only play LEGO Fortnite, for example, will be able to download this mode only.

The basic version of Fortnite will have essential features, such as the lobby and cosmetics, while everything else will require an additional download. Thanks to this, the thin client will save up lots of hard disk space, which is long overdue.
