Epic Games has announced players of Fortnite have already raised over $50 million USD for Ukraine war relief efforts.
The company announced the fundraising drive alongside the launch of the battle royale shooter’s Resistance Season on Sunday. Epic is donating all proceeds for the remainder of March to a number of charities, including DirectRelief, Unicef, UNHCR & UNWFP. This includes all real-money transactions, such as V-Buck packs, gifted Battle Passes and cosmetic packs sold until April 3.
Just 24 hours later, the company announced Fortnite fans had raised over $36 million USD for those charities, for which Epic received a personal thanks from the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine himself, Mykhailo Fedorov. That figure grew to over $50 million by midweek, with ten days of fundraising still to go.
In the meantime, the game has received two more characters joining the endlessly growing Fortnite roster that players can pick up. Keeping with this Chapter’s run of Spider-Man and Spider-Man-adjacent characters, the Classic Mary Jane Watson pack is now available. It includes her outfit, a Web Shredder Pickaxe and Back Bling.
Finally, two-time gold medallist snowboarder Chloe Kim is the latest real-world celebrity addition via Fortnite‘s Icon Series. Her outfit and accessories will be available from Saturday, March 26, but players who perform well in today’s Chloe Kim Cup will have the chance to unlock her early. Check out the details for that over here.
