Left 4 Dead has been a huge success for Valve, but the game was actually announced back in 2006 as a project from independent studio Turtle Rock. It was only in 2008 that Valve snapped up the developer.

However, the studio didn’t last much longer. Soon after the release of Left 4 Dead Valve asked staff to join its Washington studio and closed what was formerly Turtle Rock.

It’s now being reported by Develop hat Turtle Rock has risen from the ashes headed by founder Michael Booth, a close friend of Valve.

It’s not known what projects are under way at the studio.
