Square Enix Collective has announced that lush anime-flavoured adventurer Forgotton Anne will be hitting PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on May 15.

The narrative-heavy title sees the eponymous heroine and companion Master Bonku trapped in the Forgotten Realm, a mysterious place where everyday items from the human dimension — odd socks, missing toys, lost letters, probably a few of those old demo discs from 90s games magazines — are forever doomed to linger.

These items cobble together to form beings known as Forgotlings, which aid the protagonists in their mission to return home. What this means for you is having to overcome various 2D platforming and puzzles along the way, all the while soaking up an emotionally-charged tale packed with dialogue choices.

‘It’s been a genuine pleasure to watch gamers and critics alike tuck into Forgotton Anne’s early builds over the last 12 months, but now’s when things get really exciting,’ commented Alfred Nguyen, Creative Director and Co-founder of ThroughLine Games. ‘We think we’ve created a world that both pays homage to some of the biggest anime films but also takes the art form in a different direction, giving players the chance to live out an animated adventure for real.’
