Football Manager 2024 has only just launched, yet Sports Interactive could end up in hot water over FM24 false advertising claims.

With the full FM24 release date now passed, we have thoroughly enjoyed our hands on experience with the game, as shown in our FM24 review.

However, it’s not all sweetness and light. A faction of fans have pointed out false advertising on behalf of SI, and are demanding answers.

Promised new license ‘missing’

While much of the new game is fantastic, a specific license is missing. While this does not appear to be a huge issue, many fans are pointing out the apparent false advertising in the lead up to the game’s launch.

As a result, FM24 players are voicing their disappointment. Some are even sharing a link to which fans can make a complaint to the UK’s regulator of advertising.

The license in question is the J.League. Japan’s Meiji Yasuda Insurance Ltd J1, J2, and J3 leagues (top three leagues in Japan) are all advertised to be playable in this year’s game along with official logos, kits, and player photos, according to the official website.

While the leagues are available in the game, the official logos, kits, and player photos are not. This is where members of the FM community have taken umbrage.

VideoGamer has confirmed that as of November 8, the official packs are missing from FM24.

“It is pretty s***”

Frustration across the community is clear. Many fans even feel that a more honest dialogue about when the licenses will be added would solve the problem.

One Reddit user stated “It is pretty s***. And the game industry, in general releasing games like this is getting old. If this was [a] free DLC in Dec or something, nobody would care right?” stated wanderingrhino.

This remark not only takes aim at the marketing of the J-League licenses being available in the run up to launch, but also at the volume of games being released with major bugs still prevalent.

Another fan has stated their frustration with this problem having bought the game for the sole purpose of playing in the J-League.

“I am glad that I did not buy FM23 and instead got it on Amazon Prime. This time I caved in because of J-League and found out that J-League is kinda unplayable until god knows when,” claimed Reddit user nbaproject.

While nbaproject may be in a minority, the point is a valid one. Many fans will buy the game based on what they see is new, and this one leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

We have reached out to Sports Interactive, and await their comment.
