The majority of the players on this list will be difficult to sign on FM, especially considering the age of some of the players. It seems unlikely Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos have another big move in them, however players do easily play into their mid 30s on FM23, so we will see.

The list itself is very centre back heavy, there aren’t too many elite fullbacks in the game as it stands but there are plenty of good youngster who may be able to do the job if you need. You can take a look here at our top wonderkids in FM23.

Who is the best defender in FM23?

The best defender in FM23 is between Dias and Van Dijk, however because of Dias’ age he probably edges it. Players like Militao and Skriniar are certain to topple them within a few seasons though if they’re coached right.
