Some cynical people out there may already believe that FPS games are mass produced using a simple FPS game generator, and who can blame them given some of the generic shooters that see the light of day. In reality, making an FPS is a difficult thing to pull off. You need programmers, modellers, artists, level creators, sound experts and other skilled people, together with thousands of man hours and then you might be on your way to a game.

The Game Creators, the developers behind this DIY game software, claim that FPS Creator will let you turn your game making dreams into reality. FPS Creator does what is says on the tin – giving you the tools needed to make your own first-person shooter. With FPS Creator there is no need for programming skills or 3D modelling knowledge, allowing you to create levels by dragging and dropping objects such as walls, doors and windows. The creator features over 800 game objects, including 62 enemies and 18 weapons.

You are able to import your own music and sound files as well as external models and graphics. When you have made your game you can burn it to CD and share with friends and even sell your creations free from any royalties.

This is the first game creator that produces results of such a high standard,” said Rick Vanner, Commercial Director of The Game Creators. “With a full physics system, great animation, death matches, excellent graphics styles and a whole lot of other clever features, the creative possibilities are both endless and comparatively easy to achieve, and that’s a combination that no other product offers. There are already over 1,000 users of our early adopter version and they’re voting it a great hit.

While we doubt you’ll be able to make the next Doom 3 or Unreal Tournament, FPS looks to offer anyone interested in game design a way to experience it without requiring the skills you’d usually associate with game development. FPS creator is due for release on September 15th, and will be available for £29.99 at retail stores and the FPS Creator website.
