Square Enix revealed overnight that Final Fantasy XV's Comrades multiplayer will be available as a standalone download on December 12 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Comrades was released as an expansion for the base version of the epic road trip JRPG, although this standalone edition doesn't require you to own Final Fantasy XV in order to play it.

If that wasn't enough, Comrades' standalone release will be complemented by a bunch of extra content, including 10 new bosses, costumes, and weapons.

There is a catch to this, however. The original version of Comrades will not be playable once the standalone version is released, although those of you who have the original version can grab the standalone edition free.

It should also be noted that the PC version of Final Fantasy XV won't be getting the standalone Comrades, as the expansion was included in this version of the game out of the box.

Square Enix made the shocking reveal overnight that it would be cancelling three of the four DLCs planned for 2019.
