The PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will launch across Europe on April 14, Square Enix has announced.

Players who pre-order will also be given early access to the game on the weekend prior to release, starting Friday, April 11, with everybody invited to join the open beta starting February 22.

Existing PlayStation 3 players will also be able to transfer their character data and subscription over to the PS4 version free of charge. However, once your account has been transferred to the PS4 version, you will no longer be able to play the PS3 game. Square asks those who want to continue playing both versions to “please also purchase the PS4 version”.

Still, if you’ve yet to pick it up, a limited PS4 Collector’s Edition will be available to purchase alongside the standard edition that includes seven special in-game items, two of which – a Fat Chocobo Mount and Wind-Up Moogle Minion – were not included in the previous PS3 and PC Collector’s Edition.

The CE also includes an artbook, Seventh Umbral Era movie content disc, soundtrack, art card set and themed security token.

Customers who pre-order either edition will also receive a Mog Cap and Cait Sith Doll Minion.

As well as confirming a release date, Square also announced that the PS4 version will render at full 1080p. And while you’re waiting you may want to free up some space on your hard drive: the PS4 version will require “over 40GB” of storage space.
