Final Fantasy XIII-2 will ship on just one DVD for Xbox 360, Square Enix has confirmed. The news comes as a surprise given the two-disc requirement for the first game.

According to director Motomu Toriyama – who was speaking to Japanese magazine Famitsu – the sequel features just as much content as XIII, but saves disc space by rendering real-time as opposed to FMV event scenes. This also give the bonus of armour changes showing in these scenes.

The PS3 version is also confirmed to ship on a single Blu-ray disc.

Famitsu also revealed that quick time events in FFXIII-2 won’t dish out such massive penalties if players mess up, and that it will be possible to switch the currently controlled character during battle.

It was recently revealed that the game will feature Chocobo racing and an amusement park.
