EA has confirmed that EA Canada in Burnaby, which is home to the Fight Night boxing franchise, is now hard at work on producing the publisher’s first game using the newly acquired UFC license.

EA announced it has secured the UFC rights at E3 in June.

A new “Fighting Team” has been created within EA Sports, led by creative director Brian Hayes who was gameplay director on Fight Night Round Three and Champion.

“Most of the team didn’t even know about [the new UFC game] until the announcement at E3,” Hayes said. “We were all watching it together and when Andrew Wilson and [UFC president] Dana White (pictured at right) took the stage, everybody starting cheering. It was great.”

It’s not known when the first EA Sports UFC game will be released.
