EA prepared the cover of FIFA 23 with Kylian Mbappé in Real Madrid kit, an interview with the New York Times, has revealed.
The PSG star, 23, was long linked with a move to the Spanish outfit, but ended up staying in Paris to form a deadly combination with Lionel Messi and Neymar.
The move at one stage looked so certain that EA had planned for the exit, and had prepared the FIFA 23 cover with the Frenchman in a Real Madrid strip. The full interview can be seen here.

Chelsea’s Sam Kerr also became a cover star, becoming the first female cover star in FIFA history – which further demonstrates just how popular the women’s game has become around Europe.
How can I play FIFA 23 early?
For those looking to get their hands on FIFA you won’t be waiting much longer – the game is set to launch on September 27 with those with Early Access. The FIFA 23 Web App is also likely to launch around this period.

For most gamers, the easiest way to get your hands on FIFA 23 early is by pre-ordering FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition (we’ve put a link below – make sure to select the Ultimate Edition).
Remember, this just available for the Ultimate Edition. Early Access is not available for the Standard Edition of FIFA 23.
Another way of getting to play the game early is by becoming a member of EA Play, which will give you 10 hours of gameplay to trial the game from September 27.
