Speaking to Japan’s Nihon Keizan Shimbun daily (via IGN), Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has revealed that moving forward the company intends to make “simultaneous releases the norm”.
Huge Western territory release delays have come hand in hand with many Japanese developed RPGs, with the time consuming process of localisation taking upwards of six months, but this painstaking wait should now be a relic of yesteryear.
What’s not clear is whether or not the new release policy applies to titles already in development, including Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX, both of which don’t currently have a final release date. This had lead many to assume the games would not see a Western release this calendar year.
There’s obviously still a high chance that even if the games are released simultaneously worldwide, this won’t be until 2009 – we certainly hope not though.
