According to the latest issue of Famitsu (translated by Kotaku), Final Fantasy XIII is still on track for a 2009 release in Japan, despite recent concerns that the Dragon Quest IX delay would have a knock-on effect.

Asked about the possible delay, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada noted “development is going favourably for a 2009 launch”.

The magazine also revealed that the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII playable demo, to be included with the Japanese Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete on April 16, will offer over an hour of gameplay. The game’s director and writer Motomu Toriyama also revealed that the demo will take place before heroine Lighting meets Snow Villiers and will be structured in a way to to encourage repeated play.

While the game is still on course for 2009 in Japan only on PS3, earlier this year Square Enix revealed the Western version (coming to PS3 and Xbox 360) will not be released before April 2010.
