Square Enix has dashed hopes that the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII would be playable at its upcoming August private party. The news that the game will only be shown in trailer form was revealed by Famitsu (kindly translated by Kotaku).

The August 2 party will be limited to only 2,400 attendees, each picked at random via a raffle through the Japanese Square Enix Members website. Other games on show will include Final Fantasy Versus XIII and three new Kingdom Hearts titles.

The only titles at the party in playable demo form will be Kingdom Hearts 358/2 for Nintendo DS, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep for PSP, Sigma Harmonics on DS and Dissidia Final Fantasy for PSP.

This also suggests that there’s very little chance Final Fantasy XIII will be shown in playable form at E3.
