Aliens: Colonial Marines will feature playable female marines in both competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, Gearbox announced at its PAX Prime panel seen by Eurogamer.
“I want everybody to be clear that there are playable females in both the mulitplayer and the campaign,” stated Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford.
A marine named Jennifer Running was shown in co-op.
The introduction of female characters follows backlash towards the Dallas developer after it said the game would feature only male playable characters – a bizarre decision given the Alien franchise has a strong female lead.
A petition for Gearbox to introduce female characters gathered nearly 4000 signatures.
“We realised some people were starting to feel bad. We exist to entertain people,” said Pitchford.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will be released February 12.
