The original Xbox controller, known as the Duke, is making a comeback on the Xbox 360 – at least at Halo Fest. Halo development team 343 Industries is working to get some Duke controllers rebuilt with the guts of Xbox 360 pads, in order to bring a retro feel to Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary at Halo Fest.
“We are trying to get some OG Dukes rebuilt with 360 guts for Halo Fest,” said O’Connor on gaming forum NeoGAF. According to Frank, about six will be made “by people who have been doing the same thing for years.”
The Halo Fest event takes place at PAX in August, where the pads will be available to use before being auctioned off for charity at the Child’s Play dinner.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is due for release on November 15. Microsoft confirmed that the game will retail with an ERP of £34.99 in the UK.
I loved the Duke back in the day, especially for Halo, but it wasn’t the most versatile of controllers. The Type S pad was a huge improvement, and gave us the template for the current Xbox 360 controller.
