They say a dog is man’s best friend, and Ubisoft clearly agrees with this sentiment in its latest Far Cry 5 trailer, where one bloke is happy pouring hours into the open-world adventure game while being smitten with his canine companion. Not a real dog mind, but rather Far Cry 5’s scruffy digital pooch, Boomer.

Naturally this doesn’t sit too well with his poor pet, who after making several failed attempts to get his master’s attention, ends up giving up the ghost until the chap orders a toy gun to live out his Far Cry 5 fantasies with his loyal mutt. It’s quite touching, actually.

And yes, there is a point to all this. In Far Cry 5, Boomer can be snapped up as a ‘Fang for Hire’ and aids you in combat, gnawing at enemies and retrieving weapons and other equipment from the field. You’ll need it too, as overthrowing religious freak Joseph Seed isn’t going to be a cake walk.

Far Cry 5 is due for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on March 27.
