Far Cry made quite a splash when it was released for PC in 2004. While it was a solid shooter its stunning visuals helped it make headlines, resulting in PC gamers frantically trying to upgrade their PCs in an effort to run the game. With original developer Crytek now working with EA on Crysis, the development of Far Cry 2 is being handled by Ubisoft’s Montreal studio.

Far Cry marked the beginning of a new era for shooters. An era of gorgeous graphics and of advanced artificial intelligence,” said Tony Key, Ubisoft’s vice president of marketing. “We are confident that Far Cry 2 will have the same impact again on the FPS genre landscape.”

Details on the sequel are more than a little sparse, but it’s due in spring 2008, and is so far only confirmed for PC. The teaser site does give away some clues though, namely the African Serengeti-like setting, accompanied by similarly styled music. Although true PC exclusives are strange these days, so far there’s been no mention of the game coming to consoles.

We’ll keep you updated on the game’s progress over the months leading to its release next year.
