Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout New Vegas is the closest the series has ever come to a true Western. With the arrival of a new rideable horses mod, Obsidian’s beloved Fallout spin-off is now the John Wayne simulator you always dreamed of.

Rideable Horses in Fallout New Vegas

Thanks to talented modder DuncanWasHere, Rideable Horses are now available across the entirety of New Vegas’ apocalyptic Mojave.

Available to download right here, the new modification adds a horse companion in Goodsprings for you to ride across the irradiated desert. It’s no Red Dead Redemption 2, but it’s a fine mod.

The talented modder created a system to allow players to mount and dismount the horse with the use of the crouch and interact keys. To move the horse, the game’s standard movement controls are used. Even VATS can be used while on horseback.

While an amazing feat, especially considering the restrictions of New Vegas’ ancient engine, the modder explains the project is still in a rough state.

“Consider this to be a proof of concept,” the modder wrote. “There are many issues still to work out, but since I do not currently have a lot of time to dedicate to this project.”

Open for help

Due to the mod’s complexity, the modder explained that they are willing to collaborate on a more polished version of the mod.

“I wanted to at least put something out there instead of holding off in favor of a more polished product that I may never finish. If anyone would like to contribute to or extend this mod’s features and assets, you are welcome to do that,” the modder said.

While rough, the new Fallout New Vegas mod is one of the coolest additions to the game. In fact, it makes us wish New Vegas has horses on launch!
