With Fallout: London’s release date still very much concealed, the community is going a bit feral with desperation. If you don’t know already, it’s a mod expansion bringing the Nuclear wasteland to the streets of London. Spearheaded by Team FOLON, it’s a project that’s been in the works for a good few years now. It has also been delayed by unforeseen circumstances several times, and community sentiments are aiming crosshairs at the development teams sometimes lacklustre communication.

“Moaning little babies,” opens a controversial Reddit thread locked down by moderators within a short period of time. “I’ve never seen such disdain form towards a passion project for being a few months late.” The games industry veteran goes on to say that those complaining are the very reason that “games are now flat, boring, repetitive, uninspired and original” – all because developers have to listen to and cater to negative and impatient views.

“Criticising, belittling, and demeaning of a triple A developer selling £100 games with in-app purchases is one thing … but doing it to a small team” of volunteers is “frankly quite despicable,” they said.

Recently, the Fallout: London developers shared a post on the Patreon showcasing a character holding up five fingers. While there’s speculation that this alludes to some sort of release, the likelihood is that it was in response to the five minute cooldown timer on the Discord, which arose as a result of impatient messages grilling the developers for progress updates.

Granted, the communication from developers has been very vague. Yet, it doesn’t change the fact that the community itself is expecting a whole lot of information on a passion project that isn’t ever going to cost money. My thoughts echo that of the original poster. It reeks of entitlement.

Prilladog (Team Lead at FOLON) has alluded many-a-times that expectant fans need to head outside and stop thinking about it for a bit. Had those words been listened to, perhaps the subreddit wouldn’t have devolved in a “cesspool” that doubles up as a “lightning rod for the furiously entitled and helplessly stupid.”

The original post has drawn attention from others within the community who don’t hold the same views. “Calm down,” as one has said, while another has said “what a melt” about the original poster.

At least all the in-fighting is amusing for someone who is impartial to Fallout: London’s release. Get out the popcorn and enjoy the real Fallout.
