The Facebook version of Diner Dash is shutting down after eight months due to a decline in the game’s popularity.

There are currently just over 1 million monthly users, half of what the game was bringing in back in January.

Daily, there are as few as 140K users, and has dropped as low as 100K users in the last few days.

Earlier in the year, Silicon Knights boss Dennis Dyack stated Facebook gaming was “damaging traditional gaming“. This comes in contrast with a recent statement by Square Enix worldwide technology director Julien Merceron who said: You have millions of people playing Farmville on Facebook, and again, this type of game is not wrong. These consumers can’t be wrong.”
